The Yankee Doodle Dandy tune is embedded in American history as a favorite old-time patriot tune and nursery rhyme. Although its origin is a bit nebulous, the song became legendary during the revolutionary war. When you understand the meaning of words in its catchy lyrics, the story comes alive with the facts of history that instill pride and affection for our early American patriots.
After nearly two and a half centuries, the tune hasn’t changed a bit, but maybe it’s time to change the lyrics and sing that tune again. A patriotic resolve once gave birth to a new free nation whose moral fabric was unsurpassed in former days. This is one time I would love for history to repeat itself. With proper focus and the right kind of leadership, America can still restore her soul. And we’ll be Yankee doodle dandies if we do!
